Darbhanga Gets Rail Boost as Hasanpur–Sakri Rail Project Moves Ahead
Darbhanga (Bureau Report): Darbhanga and the wider Mithila region have received a major infrastructure push, as fresh progress has been reported on the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project. BJP MP Dr Gopalji Thakur said the Railway Ministry’s decision to move forward with the pending work is a significant step towards stronger rail connectivity in North Bihar.
He stated that the remaining work on the Sakri–Hasanpur line has now entered an active phase. In particular, track laying is expected to begin soon on the long-pending stretch between Harnagar and Kusheshwarsthan, which is considered the missing link of the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project.
The MP added that an official notification has already been issued for laying tracks between Haripur and Kusheshwarsthan, bringing new hope that thisrail project will finally move towards completion.
The Missing Link of the Hasanpur–Sakri Rail Project
The Hasanpur–Sakri rail project, with a total length of about 81 kilometres, has remained incomplete due to the delay in one crucial section. This pending part includes the Bithan–Kusheshwarsthan–Harnagar segment.
Dr Thakur said that a positive and much-awaited initiative has now been taken to complete this section of the project, which people across Darbhanga and nearby areas have been waiting for over a long time.
₹735 Crore Plan and a Revised Track Alignment
According to the MP, the remaining portion of the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project is expected to be completed at an estimated cost of around ₹735 crore. He also mentioned that a new curved realignment route has been planned for the unfinished part of the project.
In simple terms, this means the rail route will be slightly adjusted to support smoother construction and better long-term operations under the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project.
Land Acquisition Begins in Kusheshwarsthan
One of the most important steps before construction begins is land acquisition. In this case, the Railway Ministry has formally initiated the land acquisition process in Kusheshwarsthan circle of Darbhanga district.
Dr Thakur said that an official notification has been issued for acquiring land in villages falling under the route of the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project, which is being seen as a major milestone for the project’s implementation.
Eight Villages Listed for Land Acquisition
As per the notification, land acquisition has been proposed in eight villages in Kusheshwarsthan circle. In total, around 191.18 acres of land will be acquired for the pending section of the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project.
Village-wise details shared are:
- Balha – about 73 acres
- Ber – about 17 acres
- Ghanshyam – about 0.43 acres
- Jafarpur – about 18 acres
- Larni – about 6.81 acres
- Manetha – about 39 acres
- Manouripur – about 4.40 acres
- Narayanpur – about 32.54 acres
Why the Hasanpur–Sakri Rail Project Matters
Dr Thakur underlined that once the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project is completed, it will strengthen railway connectivity across the Samastipur–Darbhanga–Saharsa belt.
He said the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project is expected to deliver several benefits, including:
- easier and faster travel for local residents
- better access to towns for education and healthcare
- smoother movement of goods for traders and farmers
- increased economic activity across the region
- new employment opportunities during and after construction
For the people of Mithila, the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project is not just another railway line—it is a practical link that can support everyday life, business movement, and long-term development.
MP Says He Raised the Issue Repeatedly
Dr Thakur also said he had raised the matter several times in the Lok Sabha and met Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw with a formal request to speed up the work. He added that he consistently highlighted the importance of the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project in Railway Standing Committee meetings as well.
With the official notification now issued and land acquisition underway, the Hasanpur–Sakri rail project appears to have entered a decisive stage.
