Bihar Launches Luxury Caravan Buses for Tourists, Fares Start at ₹75 per km
Patna: In a bid to strengthen road-based tourism and offer a premium travel experience, the Bihar Tourism Department has launched luxury caravan buses for tourists visiting the state. The initiative is aimed at promoting key tourist circuits while providing a five-star hotel-like experience on wheels.
According to officials, the caravan buses have been specially designed for long road trips and will cover major destinations such as Bodh Gaya, Nalanda, and Valmiki Tiger Reserve. The service is expected to attract domestic and international tourists looking for private, flexible, and comfortable travel options.
Premium Features on Wheels
The caravan buses are equipped with luxury interiors, including recliner sofas, privacy curtains, individual AC vents, mobile charging points, and dedicated luggage storage cabins. An advanced air suspension system has been installed to ensure a smooth journey, even on long routes.
For entertainment and safety, the buses feature large screens for movies and web series, CCTV cameras, fire detectors, and a centralized monitoring system. Each caravan also includes hotel-style amenities such as private bedrooms with four beds, a fully equipped kitchen, and a modern bathroom with a shower, supported by advanced safety features.
Routes and Booking Details
Tourists can opt for curated circuits or customized itineraries. A special city tour package is available in Patna, offering 12 hours or 75 kilometers of travel for ₹11,000. Bookings can be made online or through the offices of the Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC). An official contact number, 85444 18209, has also been issued for inquiries.
Fare Structure and Economic Impact
The standard rental charge has been fixed at ₹75 per kilometer, with a minimum usage of 250 kilometers per day. This brings the average daily cost to around ₹18,750–₹20,000, depending on distance and duration. Officials said the pricing has been kept competitive to encourage group and family travel.
Beyond tourism, the project is expected to generate employment, with estimates suggesting 50–60 direct and indirect jobs per bus. The department believes the caravan service will boost tourism revenue while positioning Bihar as a modern, road-trip-friendly destination.
With the launch of these luxury caravan buses, Bihar aims to combine comfort, privacy, and cultural exploration, offering travelers a new way to experience the state’s historical and natural attractions.
